Denver Trip updated

Denver Trip updated

well here I am after 20 hours of driving I make it the the Antlers of Vail resort. I rented a 1 bedroom condo with full kitchen for a little cheaper than a hotel in Denver. Vail is about an hour and a half from Denver and I’ll have to drive back and forth between the two for my photo seminar but I wanted to stay in the mountains. did I say in the mountains. shit I’m so far in between them that I hear banjo’s playing. any way I think I’ll keep this blog running as a continuous blog and just updated when needed. so on to the blog..

(update) well I took my first day or I should say my first half day and toured lions head. this is the section that my hotel is in. nice little village but right now it is very dead. nothing what so ever to do around here. I am told once the snow comes in it will be very busy. I’m the kind of guy that don’t like big crowds but it seems that hear the only time it gets to be fun is when it is crowded. hmm.

I am going to do some research and I think tomorrow I will get up early and go up to the rocky mountain park and do some site seeing there. Saturday and Sunday ill be in the seminar for digital photography so those days are already set. I was thinking of staying another night here but since it is so dead I don’t think so.

Monday I am to meet an old friend who lives here in Colorado. If so that will take care of Monday. if I get a pass for the Rockies for the whole week then ill might just head north into the Rockies for the rest of the week if not then ?? more updates to come.

[Thurs night] its snowing right now. I’m told it could be a foot of snow by morning. WOW..

ok so I’m cheating a little. it has been a couple of days now. Saturday and Sunday was just busy and by the time I got out of the seminars I was just to tired to do anything. so here we go…

got up Friday morning and we had about six inches of snow on the ground.  I got out around 8 in the morning and am going to go to the rockie national park today. I was hoping to get on the trail ridge parkway or the fall river road. we’ll see.

well I enter the Rockies. these mountains are more beautiful when they have snow on them. the snow gives them the 3D look and they just stick out better. it turns out that you can only go up the trail ridge about a 1/4 of the way for they have closed it already because of snow. WAAAAA. same goes to the falls river road. damn next time I have to get out here in the summer for it.

if you come do it after November because most of the shops are in the dead season until the snow comes. turns out October is the off season between summer and winter stuff. good this is there are no crowds.

so on Saturday I got up early for it still had snow out. it takes me an hour and a half to get from Vail to Denver. and some of the passes on i70 had snow and ice so you had to drive slow or head on off the side of the mountain. up one side and its dry as can be and start down the other and its nothing but ice and snow.

I made it to the photo shoot. which was the main reason I came here for. the first season is for the basics of photography. this class is set up or digital cameras. learned a lot in class. some I already knew from high school but others was new. now I just have to remember what they said and put it to good use.

Sunday came and the drive in wasn’t to bad. they went over on the basics and then they showed up what to do for a photo-shoot. what we should do to compose the picture. setting the right aperture and having the right speed. then after the first half we went to another room. they had four stations set up just as a professional would do for a photo-shoot. they had models come out and pose for us. they were great they were also beautiful. we had four girls and two guys.

the models would dress in different costumes from dresses and  old Russian made costume to a cowboy and skateboarder. this was assume, we shot for about and hour and a half. the models would pose for so long the switch out and get redressed into a different costume. some models dress 3-4 different times. the hosts would walk around and change the lighting and explain what and why they were doing it. all you had to do is ask for help and they would help and explain it for you.

after the shoot we had launch and during this time the two presenters were going over all the pics and criticizing them. they were saying that our group had some of the best pics out of the other courses that the had. they pulled up on a big screen and showed us what we did and explain if anything could have been don better. their were some very good shoots.

after the shoot I dove around a little and headed back to the condo in Vail. I was around nine ten o’clock at night. I was driving in the fast lane and lets just say faster the what was posted.(Smile)  and for some reason I decided to get in the slow lane since there was nobody else out except a couple that a screamed by. in a flash I scream by a huge elk just standing in the fast lane. my heart literally stop. this beast was as tall as my explorer. his antlers were as wide as my truck and I just raced right past him. in a split second if I had been in the fast lane there would hamburger galore from both of us. I I looked up and said my thanks right then and there somebody was watching me. I’m pretty sure the elk jumped  back into the woods

wow my heart still jumps when I think of it. anyway the next day, Monday, I got up checked out and headed to the southern part of town to meat a friend that we haven’t seen are talked to for almost 15+ years. that was great to get to know him again. need to keep in touch with him more.

well more to come..

ok now where did I leave off.  I have just left my friend Andy and headed to the Rockies again. the first time I went up I drove thru a small town and just found out this second time thru I am driving thru Boulder. hmm nice little town. everything out here is so spread out. to do anything you have to drive for hours to get anywhere. ok so now I’m back in the Rockies National Park. driving into the park there are cars off the side of the road. off the side you see a giant heard of elks just grazing and doing whatever they feel like. I parked, got out and started to take pictures. after that I headed down to bear lake. a nice drive, in and out of the valley’s between the mountains. didn’t see much wild life I guess they are all up the front entrance blocking traffic.

drove back to the entrance. I wanted to drive up on the trail ridge road or the falls road but both are already closed for winter. was told that there is snow already on them and driving is to hazardous so they closed them.

I was deciding if I wanted to drive 2+ hrs. to Colorado springs to see pikes peak and gods garden, which is a valley of red rocks in the middle of nowhere. but decide that I just head on home. since my ac decided to also go on vacation and quite I just started home. I had a nice time out here and drove a lot of miles. I need to get back out here in mid summer when there is more things going on. well that’s it for this blog until next time……

Well I signed up for the Digital Photo Days seminar. I decided to go to the one in Denver Colorado. one reason is because it falls on my birthday and I thought I treat myself to a decent vaca this year and second I need to waste my vaca days. my bro will be house sitting with my boy’s(dogs). so I will have the time to myself. I will be driving out and have arranged to stay in a one room condo in Vail Colorado. its about an hour west of Denver but I rather stay up in the mountains and have some cool photo opps then stay in town plus I spend the same doing it but with a better room and view. the place ill be is the antlers of Vail. a big ski resort and I’m going at the right time just before winter so ill get 35% of my room. hell that will save me almost a grand in room fees. I have been scouting the area on Google earth and have seen some neat places I have to go to. I will be racing up there on the expressways to get more time there but on the way home ill have 3 days to get home and will be taking mostly back roads to see more of the country. highways are great if your in a hurry but to see the country you have to slow down and take the back roads and enjoy the sights. ill update when I’m out there so stay tune for more.

Rt 52 drive

Rt 52 drive

well here we are again and I am ready to go. Since I have no plans and need to burn some vacation time up I thought I just drive east on st Rt 52. This will take me to the appliation mountains and I plan on hitting the blue ridge parkway. Rt 52 will intersect the parkway around the 200 mile marker. As of yet I haven’t decided to go both or south. the time has came and went. i ended up going south on the parkway for there seems to be more of a site seeing drive then then going north. i had stopped off many cemeteries and took some pics. at first i planned on stopping at every site i came across but since most of them are kind of new and don’t have anything special like fountains, statues, morgues , etc i only toke the time and pictures of sites that caught my eye for one reason or another. besides the grave yards i have made stops at meldhal dam, chilio lock #34, and Greenup lock and dam. nice to lock at once in a while but no ships or barges where going thru to make it interesting. over at the Greenup dam they had a drudger operating getting all the extra silt out of the lock. just saw a barge with a big pipe shooting water and silt into another area. went thru Ironton Ohio and came across 4 old churches. the neat kind that they had some masters create the stone work. like the old gothic churches. now those where cool. the roads were nice and very little traffic thru the hills. only time i didn’t like is when 52 hooked up to another expressway and you then had same traffic. i tried to shy away from those and only used the expressways when i had no other choice. like when it is already 8:00 pm and i was still another 100 miles from the parkway. i ended up taking the express way to shave off 2 hrs of driveling so i could find a campsite. when i came to the parkway i headed south looking for the state run campsites (cheaper) and 40 miles later found it. this was now around 9-10 pm at night . pulled into the camp ground and not a soul was there. it was so dark for there was no light pollution you could not see your hand in front of your face. so instead of wrestling with my tent i just slept in my trunk. the next morning i got up and started to drive the blue ridge parkway. what a beautiful site. no pictures can justify the first hand view of the land. drove for hours and enjoyed the sites. stopped at some picnic grounds to eat launch. drove thru the old tunnels and drove across the famous Linn viaduct in North Carolina . that was neat . hiked a little trail and came up underneath the viaduct and so the way it was built to keep nature intact as is instead of destroying it with construction. after that i headed down the parkway and came to Linville water falls. took a trail hiked a mile to the top of the falls. two 20 foot drop falls raged in front of you and disappeared down a set of steps. you then took another trail a half a mile and you came around to see the front of the falls. up top are the two 20 foot falls and below them where they disappeared down the steps it fell into another 40 foot falls. you are on a lookout some 60 feet in the are and see these falls dump into the valley below. very beautiful site. after that i drove some more ate another meal the hit interstate 40 and took the express way home. i set the speed control to 61 mph all the way to see what kind of highway mileage i could get. very impress with my new ford explorer. i got 18.9 mpg with 420 miles on one tank of gas. nice. that’s it for this small update have fun.

Cotton Carrier Reviews

skull well i just got the cotton carrier for my camera and so far i like it. was able to get out and take some shots last weekend and i put the holder on and used it while i was downtown Cinci.

the carrier is the best i have used so far. i don’t like the straps that came with my camera because its just to thick and uncomfortable. i have bought the sun bounce camera strap. that work ok . it attaches to the bottom of the camera and slide up and down the strap. but i don’t like that it always swing and wasn’t to good for hiking up and down hills or riding your bike.

the Cotton carrier with the quick connect lets you hang your camera in front of you and it stays there. it don’t swing around. it hugs your body so you can climb hills and ride a bike with quick access to the camera for fast pics. one of the best products i have bought in a long time. it is also very well built and i think it will last a long time. be testing it more as time allows

update time!

update time!

Well I am sitting here thinking of what to do to waste some time and I downed on me that I could be writing somethning. I keep saying to my self that I need to update the blolg. That I would like to write some notes down to get the book idea on paper. I have been looking into places to go vist, getting a new bike. But it always boils down to doing nothing. Boy am I getting lazy. I keep telling my selg get up and do something but I just have no motivation. I keep wanting fto find a nice girl to spend time with but again I am never at the right place tio meet any.  The ones I do meet are married or just net even close to my liking. I do now admitt that I have a somewhat of a high standards but even after I thought I lower them I still have not found anybody. Then comes the times when I do think I might find somebody and that happens when I don’t have a cent to my name.  How would I do anything if I am broke and have to wait until payday?

I cant’ wait. A couple of more months and I should be out of debt and finnaly have some extra cash to save. I drain my savings paying of bills and am now just trying not to spend stupid stuff. But that ttends to be hard for buying stupid stuff runs in the family. Must be the genes. I want to do some traveling but since I am going back to school I don’t have the time and also not the money for it now. Spent it paying bills on stupid stuff. I am looking to buy another bike (again stupid stuff not really needed) then I figured I can cruise around the state for my vaca and just take photos and work on my photo skills. On top of that I need to jot down my ideas for my book. I keep thinking and coming up with plots and ideas but just can’t get them out of my head to the paper. Writing a book is just as hard as drawing if you don’t have the skill and talents for it. I would love to draw if I just can get past the stick fiqures I bee fine.  Since I am more of a visual person I thought of taking my book and making it a comic or graphic novel but again I can’t draw.  Hhhmmm

Well it’s about time to go. I have a friend’s laptop he wants to see if I can repair. Well see. I have been looking for a writing club or photo club just so I can get out of the house so if there are any cool ones arounf cinci let me know. Time to go, catch ya later.
